Visiting Our Rural Farm Cottage in Dumfries & Galloway

Little Laight is definitely rural and not the place to visit if you are looking for a busy metropolis. However if you want stunning views and peace and quiet this is the place for you. Why not eat in and enjoy some local produce and admire the views? On your way to visit Little Laight you will pass many excellent places to buy provisions for your stay. Below are listed a few of our favourites:-

KILNFORD FARM SHOP

Kilnford Farm Shop is right on the A75 beside Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary. There is so much choice. What about a meat hamper? You can choose from home reared Galloway beef, blackface lamb or chicken? You could opt for a barbecue box or if you are in a hurry to reach Little Laight you can use their click and collect service or order online and have it delivered directly to your Dumfries and Galloway Holiday cottage. There are aristan cheeses, cakes, pies everything you need to feed a family.

LOCH ARTHUR FARM SHOP

Also off the A75, at Beeswing, you will find Loch Arthur Farm Shop, which is a Camphill Community. They have a garden, bakery, creamery and butchery. 75 adults with learning difficulties live and work at Loch Arthur, producing 60% of what is sold in the shop. A well known destination for those who appreciate quality food both sourced and produced with care and integrity. Choose from artisan cheese produced on the farm, breads and rolls baked daily in the bakery, organic meat from Loch Arthur's own farm or sourced locally, organic veggies also grown wherever possible on their farm. We highly recommend a visit.

DOWHILL FARM SHOP

Dowhill Farm shop was made famous, in my husband's eyes by its wonderful Ayrshire potatoes. In his opinion no others come close. You will find Dowhill on the A77 between Turnberry and Girvan so if you are travelling south to our Dumfries and Galloway holiday cottage be sure to stop off.

FERRY FISH

Lots of people visiting ours and our neighbour's Dumfries & Galloway holiday cottages use Ferry Fish. They even deliver to Little Laight on a Wednesday (you will need to order on the Monday). In their seafood graze boxes they prepare lobster, crayfish tails, mussels and crevettes, a really delicious treat I can promise you. There are lots of ready meals to choose from, pates, game, meat and poultry and a full range of Christmas treats as well (if you are staying at Little Laight at that time of the year.)

GALLOWAY SMOKEHOUSE

Galloway Smokehouse is at Carsluith off the A75 between Gatehouse of Fleet and Newton Stewart. They sell award winning smoked salmon, other smoked fish, smoked meats, smoked cheese, in fact most things smoked....

BARNBARROCH ORGANIC

Barnbarroch Organic is a family farm specialising in organic beef. Feast yourself on their ribeye, fillet steaks or wonderful gluten free burgers and sausages. They do deliver if you order on line but you will need to check the dates that they are in our area the Rhins of Galloway.

For the rest there are the supermarkets. Tescos offer a click and collect service, whilst Morrisons and Asda deliver.
